About Christina:
Christina Reading is a Brighton based artist whose work explores life as a narrative and the way stories are shared, shaped and carried between people. Her paintings draw on historical archives, contemporary media and personal memorabilia, creating images that offer glimpses of her own experiences while opening onto something more universal. She moves between abstraction and figuration, using drawing, mark making, colour and pattern as recurring strategies that allow each painting to slowly reveal itself.
Reading is currently focused on the emotional and physical distances within the matriarchal line, examining the connections between mothers, sisters and daughters. Her work plays with the readability of images and the tension between what is shown and what is suggested, resulting in paintings that hold both intimacy and a broader cultural resonance.
Christina Reading studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham and completed a DPhil in Fine Art at the University of Brighton. She is a member of Studio 106 in Hove and Art Can, and her work appeals to collectors who value thoughtful, research driven painting with a strong narrative sensibility.
